Our ceremony is in Morristown and the reception is in Whippany. How much time should we leave?
Build in thirty minutes rather than fifteen. That run is short on a map and long on a Saturday, because 24, 287 and the streets around the green all feed the same few turns at the same hour. We would rather reach the ballroom early and film the room while it is still empty than clip the end of your portraits to make up a gap somebody could have predicted in March.
Can we film in one of the county parks or gardens?
Yes, with paperwork. The Morris County Park Commission asks for a photography permit for wedding and professional shoots at its sites, and the tented areas at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum are reservable only from May through October. Settle that before the timeline is written, because an October Saturday on the Great Lawn is spoken for long before the invitations are printed.
The hills take the sun early in autumn. Does that hurt the film?
It moves when we work, not whether the work lands. West of Morristown the ridges cut the light off sooner than a phone app admits, so on a late October date the usable outdoor hour sits closer to half three than to five. We look at the property, the date and the direction the windows face, then tell you where your portrait window honestly is instead of promising golden hour at a time it will not happen.
We are getting ready at home in one town and marrying in another. Is that a problem?
It is the normal shape of a morning out here and it gets planned for, not absorbed.
