Across the river

Wedding films across New York.

The house works New York regularly rather than occasionally. We are about an hour out of the city, and the crew that films a Newark morning films a Brooklyn evening the same season without anyone treating it as an expedition. Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Harlem and the lower Westchester towns all sit inside the normal working radius.

City weddings ask different questions of a camera. A loading window, a service lift, a permit, a room with a low ceiling where the light is somebody else's decision. We shoot vertical cinema, 9:16, and small kit is part of why that holds up here: two people who can move through a full room are worth more on a city floor than a truck of equipment nobody has space to unpack.

Pick the page closest to your venue. Each is written for that borough or town rather than for New York as an idea, with the rooms we have checked and the practical things that actually move a timeline there.

Does filming in the city cost more?

Travel and parking are the honest variables, and both are agreed in writing before a date is held. What we will not do is discover them on the day. Tell us the venue and whether there is a loading window or a garage, and it goes into the agreement rather than into a conversation nobody wanted to have in September.

Our venue is small and the ceiling is low. Does that limit the film?

It changes the lens and where we stand, not what the film can be. We work as a small crew precisely because a lot of city rooms have no back wall to shoot from. What helps is a floor plan or a walkthrough in advance, so we arrive knowing where we are allowed to be instead of working it out during the vows.

Do we need a permit to film outdoors here?

Sometimes, and it depends on the location, the equipment and whether anything gets placed on the ground. Parks and city property keep their own rules and those rules change. We raise it early and tell you what we know, and if a spot needs paperwork we would usually rather build the portraits around one that does not.

If your borough or town is not on the list, the house still travels. Send the venue and the date and we will answer straight.
