Wedding Videographer in Newark, NJ

Newark gives a wedding film a scale that a suburban lawn cannot. The Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart runs French Gothic above Ridge Street, and the light coming through its glass does most of the work before a lamp comes out of the case. Ten minutes north, Branch Brook Park holds more than 5,300 flowering cherry trees across eighteen varieties, and for two weeks in April the park stops being a park and becomes a set.

We shoot the city the way it actually moves. Ceremony slots at the Basilica are fixed by the cathedral, so the day gets built backward from a time the church sets rather than one anybody chooses. Portraits go where the crowd is not: Military Park, the marble floors inside the Newark Museum of Art, the quiet block behind Park Place. Reception rooms sit close together, with the Robert Treat on Park Place, NJPAC a step away and the Ironbound a few minutes east, so nobody loses an hour of the evening to a shuttle.

What comes back is a film with a real city inside it. Stone, glass, blossom and brass, in a place that could not be anywhere else.

Newark sits where 280, 78 and the Parkway cross, so we arrive early, park once and stay on foot between the Basilica, the museum and Park Place.

How the house works

  1. A conversation first

We start with the day itself. Who is in it, where it moves, and the handful of moments you would be heartbroken to lose. Nothing is quoted before we understand that.

  2. A quiet camera

On the day the house works small and close. No blocking the aisle, no staging your guests, no directing a room that is already doing something worth keeping.

  3. The film, finished

You receive a cinematic edit built for the way people actually watch, cut to the sound of your own day. Everything included is agreed in writing before the date is held.

Newark weddings, answered

Can you film the ceremony inside the Cathedral Basilica?

The Basilica publishes its own wedding guidelines and sets the ceremony times, currently Thursday and Friday afternoons plus four Saturday slots. Ask the cathedral office what a videographer may do during the rite and where cameras are allowed to stand, then send us the answer. We work to whatever the church permits and we never try to renegotiate it on the day.

Do we need a permit for portraits in Branch Brook Park?

Yes. Essex County requires a wedding ceremony and photography permit for any park in its system, and outdoor receptions are not allowed at all. Applications go through the permits unit at 115 Clifton Avenue. File early if your date lands in cherry blossom season, when the park is at its busiest.

When do the cherry blossoms actually peak?

Essex County puts peak bloom in the second and third week of April most years, with at least one of the eighteen varieties showing from late March into early May. If your date sits inside that window we plan portraits for early morning, ahead of the crowds and before the light goes flat.

Are the big Newark rooms hard to light?

Not hard, but specific. The Robert Treat and the performing arts center are large rooms with mixed sources, and the museum has marble floors and daylight that behave completely differently after sunset. We walk each room before the date and bring our own key light rather than trusting a house uplight package.

Our ceremony and reception are in different parts of the city. Does that cost us time?

Rarely. Park Place, the museum and the arts center sit within a few blocks of each other, and the Ironbound is a short drive east. Put fifteen minutes of slack in the transfer and the timeline holds.
