Teaneck runs along Route 4 with the George Washington Bridge about fifteen minutes east, which is why half a wedding party can be photographed in Manhattan and back before cocktail hour. The town also knows exactly what it is. Its board of education voted to bus for integration in 1964 with no court ordering it, and Teaneck is remembered as the first community in the country where a white majority backed school integration by choice.
The venues sit close together, which keeps a day here honest. The Marriott at Glenpointe holds the large receptions off Frank W. Burr Boulevard with 26,500 square feet of event space behind it. Fairleigh Dickinson rents rooms and river frontage on its Metropolitan Campus to outside groups. For pictures there is the Teaneck Creek Conservancy, 46 acres of woods and art installations off Teaneck Road, and Overpeck County Park, more than 800 acres that five towns including this one gave up to make.
So we build a Teaneck day around the bridge and the light rather than around the map: portraits while the sun is still over the Meadowlands, then the evening belongs entirely to the room and to whoever gets the floor first.
Teaneck is the far side of the Meadowlands from us, so we plan the drive around 80 and Route 4 rather than the mileage and arrive with the morning still ahead of us.

Can we take photographs in the city and still make cocktail hour?
Usually, and Teaneck is one of the few New Jersey towns where that is a reasonable plan rather than a gamble. The bridge is close, but it is also the bridge, so we treat the return leg as the fixed cost and work backward from the time you need to be in the room. Give us a hard back by time and we will build the city block of the day to fit inside it.
Do we need a permit for portraits at Overpeck or at the township parks?
Two different offices, so ask early. Overpeck is Bergen County land and photo and special event permits go through the county parks department and its online permit portal. Teaneck Creek, Votee and the other township parks go through the Teaneck Recreation Department on Colonial Court. Neither is complicated, but both want notice, and a park is the easiest part of a wedding day to lose over paperwork.
Our reception is at Glenpointe. What do you need from the hotel?
A room walk before the date and a load in time. A large hotel ballroom is a mixed lighting environment and the house package is set for the eye rather than for a sensor, so we bring our own key light and place it while the room is still empty. If the hotel has a coordinator, put us in touch and we will handle the rest without adding a meeting to your week.
Guests are coming from three states. Does that change the timeline?
It changes the cushions rather than the shape. Family arriving from the city, from Connecticut and from further down the Turnpike will not land in one wave, so we plan the family portraits for a window rather than a moment and shoot the arrivals as their own sequence. Tell us who absolutely has to be in the group shots and we will make sure nobody is missing from them.
Do you work the rest of Bergen County or only Teaneck?
The rest of it too. Teaneck is the page because it is where the rooms, the campus and the county park sit within a few minutes of each other, but the same crew covers the towns around it.
